Parti Pas memang sesat

PETALING JAYA (Dec 14, 2011): PAS has closed its doors to any form of political collaboration with Umno, says its secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali.

"It is as if he (Hasan) does not understand PAS' stand on the matter," Mustafa told theSun when asked to comment on Gombak Setia assemblyman Datuk Dr Hasan Ali's statement that he is willing to accept any invitation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to discuss uniting PAS with Umno.

Hasan, who is also Selangor exco for Islamic Affairs, had said in an interview with Malay daily Utusan Malaysia on Tuesday that he would give a "positive answer" to such an invitation, providing he is allowed to use Islam as the main pillar for discussion.

In response, PAS Selangor state commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Osman described Hasan's statement as inappropriate as such matters should have been raised with the party's central leadership.

"Until now the party leaders have not given the green light for any representative to engage in unity talks with Umno," he said.

Hasan had also alleged there were attempts at state level to drop him as a candidate in the next general election.

"This interference is perhaps to hamper my progress. I do not know for sure but this is my speculation," Hasan reportedly said.

Abdul Rani, however, denied Hasan's claims, saying: "He has contributed significantly to PAS Selangor."

Noting that the issue could have a negative impact on the party, Abdul Rani said attempts have been made by state leaders to contact Hasan to arrange for a meeting, but he has yet to respond.

When contacted, Hasan merely said: "It is not my nature to anwer (media) questions in phone calls. I will gather all the facts and maybe call for a press conference on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Umno vice president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said while Umno has always welcomed unity talks with PAS, Hasan should have mooted it earlier while he was still PAS vice president.

"What authority does Hasan have to represent PAS now? Maybe PAS leaders should first get approval from their 'masters' (DAP) before discussing with any parties," said Ahmad Zahid.
