Father and son caught in heroin raid

By Reena Raj

A FATHER and son were among four people arrested in connection with a heroin trafficking syndicate, the biggest busted in the state this year.

Perak police chief Datuk Shukri Dahlan said police seized 2,875gm of heroin and 1kg of ganja worth RM100,000 after raiding a house in Taiping on Thursday.

He said police had been observing the trafficking of grade A heroin in the form of a green-coloured powder for the last few months.

A team from Perak police headquarters together and the Taiping district Narcotics team arrested the father and the son from their house in Simpang Taiping.

Further questioning led police to a house in Taman Sungai Mas, Taiping, where the occupants of the house refused to open the doors when they realised the police were outside.

"Police had to cut open the grille to get into the house where two men were found hiding in a room together with the drugs," Shukri said.

He said police also seized a few cars, motorcycles, lorries, mobile phones, some gold jewellery, a saw and money in three bank accounts all amounting to more than RM 250,000.

Shukri added that the heroin was of good quality and was believed to have been brought in to Perak from Penang since last year.
