KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — Perak DAP leader Nga Kor Ming today apologised to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir for referring to the latter as "metallic black", after his remarks caused uproar among the Indian community.
"To all who feel offended by my [aforementioned] remarks, I wish to say sorry and apologise to them including Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir," he said in a statement here.
But the Taiping MP and former state executive councillor continued to insist his words had been taken out context, claiming the phrase "metallic black" was in reference to Zambry and Barisan Nasional's (BN) allegedly unconstitutional takeover of the Perak government.
As such, he stressed that his apology should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the "illegal power grab by BN which all Malaysians must oppose and must never forget."
"I will continue to fight any form of undemocratic regime in this country. I will continue to soldier on," he wrote.
Nga added he regards all Malaysians as his "brothers and sisters", including Zambry, and cherishes the country's diversity.
"I have no hatred against him personally but I will never recognise him as mentri besar simply because he does not have the mandate from the rakyat," he said.
In explaining his statement, which was uploaded to video sharing site YouTube by pro-BN bloggers, Nga referred to Perak PR's "1 Black Perak" campaign, which was launched after BN's February 2009 takeover.
